The Evil Within (PTU) Tutorial

Items you will need to complete this project:

The Emo is Evil taggers kit by Foxys Designz, This is a PTU kit that available at Digi Fox's Studio (and other fine online stores).

Tube of choice. I am using Crimson Mileena, by James Jacks. This is a PTU tube, and you must have a license to use this tube, which is available at My Tubed Art.

Mask of choice. I am using the Grunge53 mask by Nik's Scripts & Scraps which is part of her PSP Masks Mega Pack.

Font(s) and/or alpha of choice. I am using Century Gothic which is a Windows System font. If you do not have it, you can download it HERE.

I am also using the White Grunge Alpha alpha by Dreamsfulfilled. This is a free to use alpha that may be downloaded at the link provided.

Note that H# and V# refer to horizontal and vertical coordinates on your canvas ruler grid. Make sure you have View -> Rulers checked in order to see the ruler grid.

When I say "Add to your canvas" I expect that you will copy and paste it as a new layer, unless otherwise stated in the tutorial.

This tutorial assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP. It was written using PSP X3, but should work in PSP 8 and up.

To begin, open a new raster layer canvas, 800 x 800 pxl, flood fill white.

Open paper of choice. I had a hard time with this one, but finally settled for Paper12_FD. Layers -> Load/Save Mask -> Load Mask from Disk and select mask of choice. I am using Grunge53 by Nik's Scripts and Scraps. (And grungy/gothy type mask will work.) Make sure the "Fit to canvas" box is checked, then click on load.

Edit -> Copy Special - Copy Merged and add to main canvas, centered.

Open Element27_FD and resize to 75%. Add to main canvas, centered.

Open Element1_FD and resize to 75%. Add to main canvas, centered at H200, V350. Using your selection tool, select the portion of the frame that is covered by the BASE of the tale (not the pointy end). Right click on Raster 2 on your Layers pallet and Promote Selection to Layer. Right click on the promoted selection and Arrange - Bring to Top.

Selections -> Select none.

Hide the background layer and the paper layer (Raster 1) then go to Layers -> Merge -> Merge visible. Unhide the blackground and paper layer.

Open tube of choice. I am using Crimson Mileena by James Jacks. Select the tube layer and add to main canvas, centered at H450, V350.

With your selection tool set to rectangle, replace (feather 2), select the bottom half of the Merged frame layer. Right click on it on the Layers pallet and Promote Selection to Layer. Arrange -> Bring to top.

Selections -> Select none.

Using your eraser tool,erase just the wee bit of the tube where so that it merges nicely with the cut portion of the frame. Return to top layer.

Open Element13_FD and resize to 80%. Add to main canvas,centered at H600, V400. Image -> Free Rotate -> Rotate right, 17 degrees.

Open Element36_FD and add to main canvas, centered at H600, V450.

Open Element1_FD (again) and resize to 75% (as above). Using your selection tool, select the bottom half of the tail. Add to main canvas to align with the tail that is currently part of the merged frame. (Right around H200, V460. There is a little knotched portion of the tail that you can use as a guide to align it properly.)

Open Element24_FD and resize to 25%. Add to main canvas, centered at H600, V575. Image -> Free Rotate -> Rotate Left, 17 degrees.

Open Element40_FD and add to main canvas, centered.

On the Materials pallet, set both your foreground and your background color to white (#ffffff). Using font of choice, add copyright information to the tag. For the James Jacks tube that information is:

I am using Century Gothic, 4 points, bold and centered. I have also added the optional background credits and tagged by information at this point. I have my credits centered at H400, V700.

Starting with the Merged frame layer and working upward, add a drop shadow of choice to each of the elements on the main canvas, except the "Promoted Selection" layer and the tail overlay (Raster 6). I am using offsets - Vertical and Horizontal - of 5 each, opacity of 75, blur of 15 and color of Dark Red (#400000).

You should now save the Artist's Copy of your tag as a .pspimage file.

Using font or alpha of choice add name of choice to tag. I am using the White Grunge alpha by Dreamsfulfilled. I have my name centered just to the left of the Devilish Arrow at H250, V625. Add a drop shadow to the name to match the one used in the rest of the tag.

Open Element18_FD and add to main canvas, centered at H400, V600.

Save your work as a .pspimage file, then drop the white background layer and merge visible. Resize to 75% (600 x 600 pixels) and save as a .png file, and you are all done.

The Love Hurts taggers kit by A Taggers Scrap. This is a PTU kit that is available at Scraps and the City.

Tube of choice. I am using Not in This Lifetime, by James Jacks. This is a PTU tube, and you must have a license to use this tube, which is available at My Tubed Art.com.

Mask of choice. I am using the FraxMask7 mask by Nik's Scripts & Scraps which is part of her PSP Masks Mega Pack. You may substitute one of Wee Scots Lass' heart shaped masks if you do not wish, or cannot afford to purchase this mask pack.

Font(s) and/or alpha of choice. I am using Century Gothic which is a windows system font. If you do not have it, you can download it HERE.

I am also using the Metal Alpha by Katrin's Design. This alpha is no longer commercially available, so please pick something else you like insted.

Open Hearttrail1, and resize to 75%. Add to main canvas, at H400, V250.

Open Frame4 and add to main canvas, centered.

open tube of choice. I am using Not in This Lifetime, by James Jacks. Copy the tube layer and add to main canvas, centered.

On the layers pallet, right click on the frame layer, Raster 4, and duplicate. Right click on the Copy of Raster 4 and Arrange -> Bring to Top.

With your selection tool set to Rectangle - Replace, select the top half of the frame layer copy, Copy of Raster 4, and delete.

Selections -> Select None.

Using your eraser tool, erase the tube bits that fall outside the frame area. Also erase the bits of the mesh & the heart trail that show outside the frame area.

Return to top layer, copy of Raster 4.

Open Ribbon10, and add to main canvas, centered at H400, V600.

Open Heart7, and add to main canvas, centered at H600, v550.

Open Cuffs3, and resize to 75%. Add to main canvas, centered at H550, v650.

On the materials pallet, set your foreground color to black, and your background color to red (#400000). Using font of choice, add copyright information to the tag. For the James Jacks tube, that information is:

I am using Century Gothic, 4 points, bold and centered and have fit my text to path to match the outside of the frame. It is beyond the scope of this tutorial to explain how to do that, but you may find a separate tutorial on it HERE.

I also added the background credits and tagged by information at this time.

Using the following settings, add a white drop shadow to the copyright. offsets of 3 each, opacity of 100%, blur of 5 and color #ffffff. Repeat using offsets of -3 each and leaving all other settings the same.

Starting with Rster 2, the mesh layer, on the layers pallet, add a drop shadow to each of the elements on your canvas, except for the frame copy, Copy of Raster 4. I am using offsets, vertical and horizontal of 5 each, opacity of 75%, blur of 15 and color black (#000000).

You may now save the Artist's Copy of your tag as a .pspimage file.

Using font or alpha of choice, add desired name to tag. I am using the Metal Alpha by Katrin's Design. I have my name centered at H250, V600, and have added a drop shadow to the name to match the rest of the elements on the canvas.

Drop the white background layer, and merge visible. Resize to 75% (600 x 600 pixels) and save as a .png file, and you are all done.

Font and/or alpha of choice. I am using Century Gothic which is a Windows System font. If you do not have it, you can download it HERE.

Open tube of choice. I am using Divine Temptation by James Jacks. Copy the tube layer and add to main canvas, centered.

Open Element32_FD, and add to main canvas, centered.

Open Element25_FD and add to main canvas, centered at H400, V550.

Using your eraser tool, erase the candle base that is visible below the cloud layer. Return to top layer.

Open Element28_FD, and add to main canvas, centered at H200, V400.

Open Element3_FD, and add to main canvas, centered at H400, V600.

Open Element20_FD, and add to main canvas, centered at H600, V600. Image -> Free Rotate -> Free Rotate Right, 20 degrees.

On the materials pallet, set your foreground color to transparant and your background color to dark blue (#000040). Using font of choice, add copyright information to the main canvas, For the Divine Temptation tube, that information is:

I am using Century Gothic, 4 points, bold and centered. I also added the background credit and tagged by information at this time. I have my credits centered at H400, V675.

Using the following settings, add a drop shadow to the copyright text: Offsets of 3 each, opacity of 100%, blur of 5, and color white. Repeat, using offsets of -3 each while leaving all other settings the same.

Starting with Raster 2, the bling layer, on the layers pallet, add a drop shadow to each of the element on your main canvas except for Raster 3, the candle layer and the copyright layer.

I am using offsets, vertical and horizontal of 5 each, opacity of 85, blur of 15 and oclor dark blue (#000040).

You may now save the artist's copy of your tag as a .pspimage file.

using font or alpha of choice, add name of choice to tag. I am using the Moonbeam Alpha by Julie It Is, and have my name centered at H300, V500. Add a drop shadow to the name to match the rest of the elements on the tag.

Drop the white background layer and merge visible. Resize to 75% (600 x 600 pixels) and save as a .png file, and you are all done.

Note that if you are planning on using the tag on Facebook, you may wish to save it as a .jpg as Facebook does not handle .pngs well.

Mask of choice. I am using the SmokeBeforeFire mask by Nik's Scripts & Scraps which is part of her PSP Masks Mega Pack.

Font(s) and/or alpha of choice. I am using Trebuchet MS which is a windows system font and the Brushed Metal alpha by Nettie B. This is an alpha I've had for quite a few years, and it is no longer available, so please find something that you like and use that.

To begin, open a new raster layer canvas, 800 x 800 pxl, flood fill white.

Open tube of choice. I am using "And you wanted" by James Jacks. Copy Background, resize to 50%, copy and paste as a new image.

Image -> Free Rotate -> Rotate Left, 15 degrees.

Open Frame1_FD and add to main canvas, centered. Image -> Free Rotate -> Rotate Left, 15 degrees.

Using your pick tool resize the tube to fit to the outside (not the inside) edges of the frame. Use your eraser tool to erase any bits of the tube that appear outside the frame on the left and bottom sides.

Click the eye next to the frame to make it invisible. Set your magic lasso (freehand selection) tool to Edge Seeker - Replace. Careful select the dragon's head and the girl's arm with the tool. Don't worry. If you screw up you can use your eraser tool to erase the bits back in if need be.

Once you have finished selecting the dragon's head, go to Selections -> Promote selection to layer.

Selections -> Select None.

Click on the eye next to raster 3 and use your eraser tool at this point to make any adjustments necessary to the head.

On the layers pallet, right click on the Promoted Selection layer and go to Arrange -> Bring to top.

Turn on the tube layer and the frame layer. It should look like the dragon is now coming out of the frame.

Add to drop shadow to the Promoted Selection layer only. I am using offsets, vertical and horizontal of 5 each, opacity of 75, blur of 15 and color black (#000000).

Hide the background layer and the paper layer (Raster 1) and to to Layers -> Merge -> Merge visible. Then turn the background and paper layer back on. Relocate your merged tube to the center of the canvas, as it likely drifted a bit off center during all of that.

Click on the paper layer (Raster 1). Open Doodle2_FD, and add to main canvas centered at H300, V500.

Open Pent_FD, and resize to 75%. Add to main canvas, centered at H550, V250.

Click on the Merged layer to activate. Open Ribbon1_FD, and resize to 75%. Copy and add to main canvas, centered at H400, V625.

Open Wire_FD and rotate right. Add to main canvas, centered at H280, V430. Image -> Free Rotate -> Rotate Left, 15 degrees.

Open Rose1_FD and resize to 75%. Add to main canvas centered at H300, V550.

Starting with the doodle layer (which should be Raster 2) and working upward add a drop shadow to each of the elements on the main canvas. Use the same settings you used on the dragon head, earlier.

On the materials pallet, set your foreground color to transparent and your background color to white (#ffffff). Using font of choice add the copyright information to the tag. For the James Jacks tube, that information is:

I am using Trebuchet MS, 4 points, bold and centered. I then free rotated them left, 15 degrees and located the copyright at H310, V160, right along the top of the frame. Add a matching drop shadow to the credits.

You can now save the artist's Copy of your tag as a .pspimage file.

Using font or alpha of choice, add name of choice to the tag. I am using the Brushed Metal Alpha by Nettie B. I've had this one for several years now and it is, unfortunately no longer available, so pick something that works for you.

I have my name centered at H550, V600 for the longer names and H500, V600 for the shorter names. Once you have added the name, add a matching drop shadow.

Drop the white background layer and merge visible. Resize to 75% (600 x 600 pixels) and save as a .png file and you are all done!

Note that if you are planning on using the tag on Facebook, you may wish to save it as a .jpg as Facebook does not handle .pngs well.

Open darkwings. Edit -> Copy special -> copy merged and add to main canvas, centered.

Open tube of choice. I am using JamesJacks PinUp3 - TubeCU1. Add to main canvas, centered.

On the layers pallet, click on the frame layer (Raster3) and duplicate. Drag the copy over the top of the tube layer, Raster4.

With your selection tool set to rectangle, replace, select the top half the Copy of Raster3 and delete.

Selections -> Select None.

Using your eraser tool, erase the bits of the tube that fall below the frame on the bottom. Also erase the parts of the mesh that fall outside the frame on either side.

On the layers pallet, click on the Copy of Raster 3 to activate.

Open Darkwings, and copy only the right hand wing and add to canvas. Relocate it to match it's copy on the canvas (right around H500, V390). Erase the bits of the wing that cover the girl's shoulder and arm.

Open Frame2, resize to 75% and rotate right. Add to main canvas, centered at H170, V450.

Open charm, resize to 75%, and add to main canvas, centered at H140, H430.

Open bow2, resize to 50% and add to main canvas, centered at H140, V370.

Open Wire deco, and add to main canvas. Image -> Free rotate -> Left 17 degrees and relocate to H400, V600.

Starting with the frame layer (Raster 3) and working upward, add a drop shadow of choice to the elements on the tag except for Copy of Raster 3 (the frame copy).

I am using offsets of vertical & horizontal 4, opacity 80, blur 35 and color black (#000000).

On the materials pallet, set your foreground color to transparent and you background color to very dark green (#1b1e1b).  

Using font of choice, add copyright information to the tag. For the PinUp3 tube, that information is:

I am using Trebuchet MS, which is a windows system font, 4 points, bold and centered. I then fit the text to path to wrap it around the frame.

It is outside the scope of this tutorial to explain how to do that.

Add a white drop shadow to the text to make it stand out against the background.

You can add the tagged by information at this time as well.

Save the artist's copy of your work as a .pspimage file.

Using font or alpha of choice, add name of choice to tag. I'm an alpha whore, so I'm using the Trickster alpha by Gemini Creationz.

I have the name centered at H500, v600, and added a matching drop shadow to it. Remember that where your name is located will depend on the length of the name and the size of the alpha or font you are using.

Drop the White background layer and merge visible. Resize to 75%, and save as a .png file and you're all done.

Open Drop-GI_HorrorWhorez.png, and add to main canvas centered at H400, V380. The top of the drop should like up with the inside top half of the frame. On the layers pallet, drag the Frame (Raster2) on top of the drop (Raster3).

Using your magic wand tool, click anywhere on the outside of the frame to select. With the area still selected, activate Raster3 and delete.

Selections -> Select None.

Open Splatter1-GI_HorrorWhorez.png and add to main canvas, centered at H200, V300.

Open Web-GI_HorrorWhorez.png, resize to 75% and add to main canvas, centered at H380, V370.

Open tube of choice. I am using Crimson Mileena by James Jacks, wich is a PTU tube. You must have a license to use this tube. Copy the tube layer, and add to main canvas, centered.

using your pick tool, Relocate the tube so the bottom half lines up with the inside end of the frame (Raster2).

Note that the tube should be behind the frame layer. If it is not, drag it behind the frame layer on the Layers pallet.

On the layers pallet, click on the frame layer to activate.

Open Ribbon3-GIHorrorWhorez.png, copy and add to main canvas, centered at H400, V500.

Open Spider, resize to 35% and add to main canvas, centered at H180, V560. Image free rotate right -> 17 degrees.

Open Stalks-GI_HorrorWhorez.png and using your eraser tool, erase the pool of blood. (Jess is overly fond of blood in this kit.) Resize to 85%.

On the layers pallet, click on the frame layer to activate, and add the Stalks to your main canvas, centered at H430, v430.

Starting with the tub layer and working upward, add a drop shadow of choice to your elements.

I am using offsets Vertical of 3, horizontal of -3, Opacity of 85, blur of 10, and color black (#000000).

On the materials pallet, set your foreground color to transparent and your background color to white (#ffffff). Using font of choice, add the copyright information to the tag. For the James Jacks tube, that information is:

I am using TrashHand, 4 points, bold and centered and have information located at H400, V650. You can snag that font HERE if you care to use it.

You can now save the artist's copy of your tag as a .pspimage file.

Click on the spider layer to activate.

Using font or alpha of choice, add name of choice to tag. I have the name centered at H500, V580. Make sure the name is BEHIND the copyright information because if you obscure the copyright information, you will be in violation of your license.

Add a matching drop shadow to the name.

Drop the White background layer, and merge visible. Resize to 75%, and save as a .png file and your all done.
